about
Lady Penelope is the debut single of Sydney rockers Prints. It features infectious hooks and catchy guitar riffs interwoven to display Prints’ own brand of vintage lo-fi pop, capped off with fresh production and creative arrangements. Badman’s candid lyrics tell the tale of a lovelorn misfit clumsily navigating his way through the modern age. Where doe-eyed romance meets harsh reality, Lady Penelope is a nod to that girl too kind to break hearts or too cruel to end it swiftly; “You’re trying to let me down/So gently it’s just keeping me around.”
lyrics
"I wanna be alone,
I gotta be alone"
She says in my company
If you're gonna let me go
I think you oughta know
I'm gonna take it personally, yeah.
Your bobby pins I find
Under my bed remind
Me of all the time we spent in my room
Like we were in our cocoon
I hope we can resume
But for now I'm back to dreaming of you
And you're trying to let me down
So gently it's just keeping me around
"I wanna be alone,
Would you please just take me home?
With you is somewhere I can't be."
If you're gonna let me go
I think you oughta know
I'm gonna take it personally.
Those bobby pins I find
Under my bed remind
Me of all the time we spent in my room.
Like we were in our cocoon
How I wish we could resume
But for now I'm back to dreaming of you.
And you're trying to let me down
So gently it's just keeping me around
Our friends think they know what's best for me
I ain't told you something...
When I'm at home I type your name on a screen
And there you are smiling back at me with someone
I ain't even seen: Jealousy.
If I'm just the driver she's lady penelope.
And you're trying to let me down
So gently it's just keeping me around
And you're trying to let me down
So gently it's just keeping me around
Our friends think they know what's best for me
I ain't told you something, I would have to agree.
